Is EBACE 2015 the Laud-est show on earth?

EBACE (the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition) starts officially on Tuesday, but there are already headlines pouring out from Europe's number one business aviation show. This morning Formula 1 Champion Niki Lauda kicked off proceedings by announcing he'd bought a new  Bombardier Global 7000 aircraft. This comes hot on the heels that his Global 6000 had won a prestigious design prize at the 2015 International Yacht & Aviation Awards for best interior in the Private Jet Design Category. “The Global 7000 aircraft is an incredible business jet in so many ways,” he said. “The cabin is large and spacious and the four separate [...]

Stratasferic!

May 12, 2015 @ 22:55
“If you can get the Wahanca Project in your story, then yes, please, do go ahead and mention it,” exhorts Jonny Nicol, MD of British technology start up Stratajet. Wrong person to challenge. I don’t have that sense of propriety that most journalists do, and consistently get into trouble for saying the wrong thing. However…I can mention it here in my blog – for a more sombre publication I’d simply say that I have seen the new offering that’s garnered £5m in investing funding and has a valuation of £25m before it even takes flight –and am seriously impressed. So what’s [...]
Jackie Chan wows the crowd on the Shanghai static

Shanghai pang…plus gratuitous Jackie Chan mention

ABACE 2015 (the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition) kicks off at Shanghai’s Hongquaio Airport today. It’s the first one I’ve missed in a few years, and I’m feeling the pain as I’m getting the noise from afar. There are around 8,000 visitors expected at the Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre with 40 aircraft jostling for position on the static. All credit to NBAA as it looks to be a corker of a show this year.     My pal Jackie Chan made a splash yesterday as he promoted the Embraer Legacy 500. He is due to take [...]

Spring is in the air…

... Literally in our industry’s case. Traditionally this is the time for growth, new beginnings and births and fortunately my inbox seems to be bearing this out with a plethora of press releases with actual concrete good news, rather than simple vague numbers that melt into nothing when scrutinised closely. My favourite number crunchers’ though are Richard Koe and his team at WingX, who offer a complete industry monitoring service, including a free snapshot every month. Go and find them here. However, if time is short and you rely on me for accuracy, last months’ European stats are cautiously positive. The [...]

Video: first flight of the Dassault Falcon 8X private jet. ENJOY!!!

Such a treat to receive this gift from my friends at Dassault Falcon Jet today. I am entirely grateful for their generosity in allowing me to share it with you. This first flight of the airframer's new baby is beautifully shot, and shows the manufacturer's awesome stretched version of its flagship 7X business jet. Having been privileged enough to visit Dassault's facilities at both Le Bourget, and Merignac towards the end of last year, I can testify to the thought and care that has gone into this programme, and that of its sibling the 5X. The accompanying press release notes that the "ultra-long range [...]

AIMEing for the top

This post appears on my client's website www.hmgaerospace.com for whom I am proud to edit Inflight magazine. On 2 February I moderated a conference at the Aircraft Interiors Middle East show in Dubai. Here are my thoughts. We had stimulating and useful discussions in our sights as we headed to Dubai for the Aircraft Interiors Middle East (AIME) show this year for our second Inflight workshop and awards at our IFEC pavilion and were not disappointed.  “In the same way it is difficult for an airline to measure the influence IFEC makes on a customer’s purchasing decision, it is difficult for [...]
How Kylie is linked to the TBM 900

Tempted by the TBM? Check this out

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0UN660132A Kylie says "Do watch the vid" - but for more info on what customers think, I'll start by proffering a piece I wrote for Arabian Aerospace's Show Business at the Middle East Business Aviation Show last December. The contented commuter  For one TBM850 owner travelling to work is pure pleasure. Liz Moscrop meets a man with a (flight) plan  Allow me to lull you into a false sense of security as you prepare to wade your way through an article about the advantages of turboprop over jet aircraft to the owner pilot. Last year Daher Socata sold its first [...]

Doctor’s orders – wellness on tap at World Travel Market and Luxury Travel Fair

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyhs442Ovrk I have to admit upfront to an unashamed plug for Zening Resorts in Cyprus in this video. I have no affiliation with the company, but have visited there twice. Each time I have come away the richer. The brainchild of Ajay Goyal (Google him - he's a good guy and cracking publisher and journalist), Zening was five years in the making, and came into being after extensive research, where he travelled to 12 countries over five years. The eco-friendly destination is a sustainable and holistic holiday resort located across from the Latchi Harbour in Chrysochous Bay, Paphos, Cyprus. It comprises 145 luxury [...]

NBAA 2014 wrap up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyHWLjm8C3k&feature=youtu.be Murphy's Law dictates that which could go wrong naturally will do so. In my case technology defeated me in Disneyland. After the Satnav/Car incident it was inevitable that communication issues ensured that three members of my wonderful and scattered support team each had some kind of software and or tech issue*. Truly....so here we are some several days later with some tidbits for you from the NBAA 2014 show...   ...with more delights to come from Bombardier later this week. I'll also add some news on the Dassault Falcon 5X and 8X programmes, which are well under development in additional [...]

NBAA14 John Travolta dances in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh4MPnUwPr8&feature=youtu.be Accomplished pilot and actor breezed into the show today in his role as brand ambassador for Bombardier Business Jets. The airframe was promoting its new Challenger 650 type. I was fortunate enough to have another half an hour interview with him - which I'll share with you in due course. For now I'll say this enormously talented individual was as charming and eloquent as ever. I'll post more later - wanted to ensure you got to see his speech in situ!
